This “Our Neighbourhood” CD has 20 planned activities directly related to the EYFS curriculum. It focuses largely on “Knowledge and Understanding of the World” with most activities involving “Designing and Making”, “ICT”, “Time”, “Place” or “Communities”. These activities are suitable for all children aged 2 – 5 and can easily be adapted. All the planning sheets are fully editable, so you can make them personal to your individual setting and include your own equipment. Depending on the size of your setting, these should keep the children interested and stimulated for at least two weeks. The activities on this CD are very practical and will probably involve lots of junk materials, particularly as the children design and build their own houses and their own boats to sail away like “Where the Wild Things Are”!
Some of the plans are “one off” circle time songs or stories, others form introductions to much longer in depth experiences which the children will want to explore over several weeks. Some children, for example, might become very involved in making their own shelters and as their interest grows they might want to make it waterproof! Other children might want to explore litter and recycling or planting and growing.
Children can become involved in taking photos of their setting and making recordings of the noises all around them as they go on listening walks.
The two letters featured on this CD are C, and G. Included are a variety of activities related to these letters. For younger children, there is a simple letter recognition game and mark making in Goop and for older ones there are handwriting sheets to help them practice forming the letters correctly. As the children find out about “people who look after us” there are plans involving talking and writing and making a display about all the significant people in the setting.
